Our Founder

The MELT Story - Say Goodbye to Butter, Say Hello to Melt!®

They say necessity is the mother of invention. For our founder, Cygnia Rapp, it was being placed on a restrictive diet (no wheat, red meat, hard cheese, butter, peanut butter, and more) that severely limited her intake of fats and oils and quickly took the joy out of eating.

As a person who loves food and cooking, Cygnia decided to fight back. Working out of her kitchen, she set out to create organic alternatives that would not only meet her health requirements but also satisfy her taste buds. She tirelessly researched fats and oils, uncovering a wealth of little-known information about healthier saturated fats and oils and their influence on health and well-being. What Cygnia “discovered” became the basis for founding Prosperity Organic Foods:  Not all saturated fats are bad for you! Our bodies need a combination of healthful saturated, polyunsaturated, and monounsaturated fats to maintain vitality.

After months of experimentation, Cygnia developed the  recipe for MELT Organic based on two critical organic oils, virgin coconut oil and flaxseed oil, that supported her digestive wellness and overall health. For the first time, these two important oils for health are in a food product that is easy to love and a pleasure to eat.

Cygnia’s discovery literally changed her life. Convinced of the health benefits and the importance of offering the MELT Organic choice to others, Cygnia invested her life savings and founded Prosperity Organic Foods.

At 40, Cygnia is far healthier, fitter, and happier than she was at 30, enjoying an active lifestyle of Nordic skiing, mountain biking, and hiking in the Rocky Mountains of Idaho with her friends, family, and her two Alaskan Malamutes. She stays in shape year round to train for the Boulder Mountain Tour, a Nordic ski race of 21 miles, that just a few years ago she was convinced was out of her reach.  She continues to pursue her passions for nutrition and creating great tasting, healthy organic foods. She especially loves hearing stories from customers who have discovered MELT Organic and love it as much as she does.

  9. I discovered Melt at Fred Meyers in Bellingham, Washington and absolutely love it–but all of a sudden they don’t offer Melt on their shelves anymore, what happen?? This stuff should be everywhere, more people need to know about Melt!! My family doesn’t even use regular butter anymore, we don’t care to, Melt is all we want to use from now on when it comes to baking, cooking, or just using it on toast! We LOVE it!! It’s like turning a plain breakfast into a Hawaiian gourmet meal, I never thought eggs could taste so good!!^_^

  11. Dear C – Thank you so much for your message! I love hearing about people who discover Melt. Since Melt is not at your local Fred Meyer (a problem we are currently working on), you should be able to find it at the Community Coop. At the very least, the Community Coop can order Melt and our new Honey Melt from United Natural Foods (their distributor) very easily. I hope that helps.

  19. Can i buy this in bulk (through my food co-op) and freeze it?

  20. ren on September 2nd, 2012 at 5:42 pm
  21. I see you have milk listed on your label. How much milk is in your product…I am supposed to be dairy-free.

  22. ren on September 2nd, 2012 at 5:52 pm
  23. Melt Organic is not yet available in bulk sizes, though you could order a case of 12 units at a discount through your local coop (using the distributor UNFI), it is however ok to freeze. Thank you for your post!!

  24. Cygnia on September 2nd, 2012 at 9:38 pm
  25. Rich & Creamy MELT Organic is dairy-free and vegan. We also offer Honey MELT Organic and Chocolate MELT Organic, each dairy free and with only 1g of sugar per serving (and VERY addictive) because they are sweetened with organic wildflower honey!

  27. Purchased Melt for church luncheon and it was excepted by many as to other vegetarian spreads . Made quite a hit! Waiting for you to come up with a vegan spread now, if you haven’t already. Maybe a nut milk, such as almond, to replace animal milk. Nice flavor, works well with our S.D.A. diet and health message of Ellen G. White.

  29. Hello!!
I recently saw your post on the earth balance debate. I was wondering if I could take you up on the offer to do a comparison. However, I live in central pa and am unsure of any places that sell it. I see it is hitting whole food stores this month but unfortunately we do not have those either. Thanks so much! I look forward to hearing from you and tasting melt!
    Namaste!

  31. Thank you for your lovely note – I am so glad to hear Melt Organic was a hit at your church luncheon!! Honey Melt is dairy-free (and vegan if you don’t mind honey as a bee product) and it only has 2 grams of sugar per serving – Honey Melt is QUITE addicting! Thanks again and have a great week.

  32. Cygnia on September 10th, 2012 at 2:24 am
  33. Hi Jenna – we would be happy to supply you with samples of Melt for a comparison against Earth Balance. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I will contact you directly for details.

  35. Hello,
I am disabled and on a fixed income. There is nowhere near me that is carrying Melt at this time, but there is a store about an hour away from me that does. Is there any way I could sample your products before asking someone to make a two hour trip for me just to try some? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

  36. Laurie Collins on September 30th, 2012 at 7:08 am
  37. Hi Laurie! Thank you for your email. We would be happy to hook you up with a $1 off online coupon. Also, you can order Melt via e-commerce on our website so it can be delivered to your doorstep for the same price you pay at the store.

  39. Cygnia:

Thank you for your persistence in getting Melt to the marketplace. I recently purchased my first product from Melt after my Earth Balance ran out and now I am hooked and will only buy Melt for my Vegan bread and cooking requirements. I subscribe to an active macrobiotic lifestyle and will gladly share this with my friends.

I run a money management firm in Los Angeles and would love to help in any way should your require any capital market advice etc. I am committed to sharing my research into a macrobiotic/vegan lifestyle to all those that are searching for a better way but don’t have the resources or time (due to work commitments or family); therefore, let me know if I can help in any way.

    All the Best,
    MM

  40. Michael on November 2nd, 2012 at 2:45 pm
  41. Hi MM,
Thank you for your wonderful feedback! Just to note, that Melt Organic is NOT vegan because we use an organic butter flavor that has a very small amount of dairy in it. With that said 2 things: we are transitioning to a casein- and lactose-free version which will be available at the beginning of the year and HONEY MELT is dairy-free. I hope that helps. Have a wonderful weekend.

  43. Can you produce an Unsalted version like unsalted butter?

  44. Elissa on November 14th, 2012 at 3:00 am
  45. Thank you for your comment – I am afraid we do not have any unsalted versions planned at this time.

  55. I put some Honey Melt on my French Bioche and it is delicious! I am looking forward to more products in the future and don’t hesitate to put your beautiful face on all of the products you will offer in the future. It will be a great advertisement strategy to see a beautiful lady (meaning you) on the front or side of the product. Have fun with your business and thank you for a brilliant flavor that is healthy at the same time. :)

  62. Cygnia on December 3rd, 2012 at 11:03 pm
  63. Cignia, I felt so happy after reading your packaging and then buying and tasting my first box of Melt, I bought 5 more when they were on special at my Co-op.. What a pleasure to find such a nice tasting clean product. In some markets, I sometimes feel that I should see skull and crossbones on a lot of “food” products these days.. and it’s not paranoia! So much that people feed their families is trash and not fit for an animal, even besides the freaking GMOs. Sorry for the rant, but products like yours are SUCH a relief!

  75. Hi Cygnia, What a wonderful life story you have. I am so very excited about your product. My only concern is whether or not it contains Diacetyl or anything like that for flavoring. I don’t believe it does but would you please substantiate that for me. I am wishing you all the success with this you so much deserve.

  76. Sunny White on January 14th, 2013 at 6:37 pm
  77. Thank you Sunny! There is NO diacetyl in the product or any other artificial flavor.

  78. Cygnia on January 14th, 2013 at 6:46 pm
  79. what is the butter flavor…hmmmmm….

  80. Nancy on January 15th, 2013 at 3:09 am
  81. Hi Cygnia,
I received your name through an invite from Meg Carlson. I’m a certified nutritionist and live in McCall, ID. I love the Boulder Tour, too! Although, I haven’t competed for the last two years. I want your permission to promote melt to my list. I saw an add for it and honestly, was suspicious. It is a delicious and healthy product and am thrilled to have this option for many of my clients.

I hope that our paths will cross, soon.
    Congratulations.
    My Best,
    Margi McDaniel

  82. Margi McDaniel on January 15th, 2013 at 4:40 pm
  83. Hi Nancy – the organic butter flavor used in Melt Organic is basically concentrated butterfat, which we are transitioning out of with the use of organic ghee and an organic-compliant non-dairy flavor. This means Melt will be casein- and lactose-free in addition to being soy- and gluten-free. ALL Melt products are certified organic, so chemicals and artificial flavors like diacetyl are BANNED and not allowable (and we certainly don’t want to use them!). The non-dairy butter flavor that will be used is organic compliant, allergen-free, and is 99% composed of organic sunflower oil. Organic certification requires that any trace ingredients conform to processing rules, are non-GMO, and do NOT contain banned substances, like diacetyl. I hope this helps.

  84. Cygnia on January 16th, 2013 at 5:35 pm
  85. I love Melt! Last year was the first I had heard of it and ordered a 4-pk, sharing it with my mother and my two daughters. My last order was for an 8-pk, which was shared again. Your recipe for chocolate granola bars is awesome! Thanks for a great product, and I’m looking forward to the proposed changes in Melt.

  86. Adele in Michigan on February 10th, 2013 at 1:25 pm

  89. Hello Cygnia,

Delighted to know about your story the great products. Have you considered international expansion as part of your growth plans ?

  90. Philip Varghese on April 15th, 2013 at 6:20 am
  91. Hi Philip – Thanks for your message. As a matter of fact we are launching Melt products into Canada. They will be available across the country in the next few months.

  92. Cygnia on April 17th, 2013 at 8:24 pm
  93. Hi, Cygnia! I am excited to try your product – heading to Whole Foods Boise to find it! Heard about it at the ISBDC Entrepreneur’s conference where I met Meg. So happy and impressed to see YOU answer the messages! How cool! We have such a similar story – Ripped Cream was invented out of necessity – we won’t drink crappy coffee creamer! :-) We’re not as far down the path as you, primarily online sales for now. But we’ll see you on the Whole Foods shelves soon – we’re already approved.! thanks for all you do and for your inspiration! Renee Smith and Robin Dimiceli – Ripped Cream Protein Coffee Creamer

  94. Renee Smith on May 14th, 2013 at 7:45 pm
  95. Hi Renee!! Thank you so much for your note! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help – best of luck with your launch into Whole Foods!

  97. We keep kosher and want to know if we can use Melt with meat. We are familiar with ghee and have done research on your product. While reading your label we found that you do not eat butter so we were under the impression that this was a dairy butter free product. This was a bit misleading and we now want to clarify if we can use Melt with our meat meals. Please let me know.

    Thank you.
