Sourcing & Sustainability
Each MELT® Organic product is certified USDA organic and Canadian Organic Regime (COR) by Quality Assurance International. A product certified organic means that QAI has verified it is true to that organic labeling claim – from the land on which each ingredient is grown, to the post-harvest processing plants, to the MELT Organic manufacturing facilities. (www.qai-inc.com).
Each MELT Organic product is certified Kosher by the Orthodox Union (OU). OU Kosher is the world’s largest, most widely recognized kosher certification agency, certifying more than 500,000 products produced in over 6,000 plants located in 80 countries around the world.(www.oukosher.org).
Each MELT Organic product is verified non-GMO by the Non-GMO Project. The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit multi-stakeholder collaboration committed to preserving and building sources of non-GMO products, educating consumers, and providing verified non-GMO choices. We believe everyone deserves an informed choice about whether or not to consume genetically modified organisms. (www.nongmoproject.org)
Our organic and non-GMO Virgin Coconut Oil is also certified Fair for Life Fair Trade by the IMO. Fair for Life Social & Fair Trade certification guarantees that human rights are guaranteed at any stage of production, that workers enjoy good and fair working conditions, and that smallholder farmers receive a fair share. Our virgin coconut oil is sourced from Sri Lanka. (www.fairforlife.net)
Our organic and non-GMO palm fruit oil is also Rainforest Alliance Certified, certified Eco-Social and Fair Trade by the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), and under application for Fair for Life certification with the IMO. The organic palm fruit oil we use in all MELT products is sourced from Columbia (South America) and certified Fair Trade/ Ecosocial by the RSPO and Rainforest Alliance (www.rspo.org, www.rainforest-alliance.org).The palm fruit oil we source is not linked to the destruction of old growth rain forests, the release of greenhouse gases, the displacement of native people, or the extinction of orangutans or Sumatran tiger (which only live in Borneo and Sumatra in Indonesia). Our certifications verify the palm plantations we source from are not developed by removing rain forests, but by converting pre-existing agricultural land to palm oil production. Because our supplier has several Fair Trade programs above and beyond the standards set forth by the RSPO, they are currently in the process of achieving Fair for Life certification with the IMO and are expected to achieve this certification by the end of June, 2014.
Our organic and non-GMO canola oil and sunflower oil are sourced from the Netherlands.
Our organic and non-GMO flax oil is sourced in the United States.
MELT Organic was first to market with an innovative square package for easy storage and sustainability.
MELT Organic packaging fits easily in your refrigerator’s door for easy access, and is tamper-evident, recyclable (#5), microwaveable and dishwasher safe. Square packaging reduces greenhouse emissions when compared to traditional round tubs because it requires less space on retail grocers’ shelves, in warehouses and on trucks.
